Summer School: Service Learning between School and University
Spreading and implementing the SL strategy as early as primary school implies encouraging young pupils and teachers to develop values, ethical behavior and to aim for a global and comprehensive education of the human being.
Among the aims of this summer school is to foster the development of values such as responsibility, solidarity and collaboration, civic awareness, active and digital citizenship, all necessary and required skills in everyone.
We will see how SL enhances motivation and interest to study among the students.
It is, for them, a support during their studies and their level of engagement will increase significantly thanks to taking part in these initiatives.
A further target of this initiative is to emphasize the transversality of this pedagogical strategy, involving music and opera, geometry and artificial intelligence and many other fields can be organized and all this can be implemented in many different contexts: from primary school to university, from working life to everyday life.
During the meeting days, we will host experts and professors who have implemented in several ways SL initiatives during the past years, collecting their experiences and picking up their suggestions and feedback.
As part of the activities within the International Interaction of Teacher Training Students and Teachers, the FORTHEM Alliance invites participants to apply for the Summer School for Teachers and Teacher Education Students. The programme will focus on Service learning between School and University and will take place from 19 to 23 May 2025 at University of Palermo.
This summer school is aimed at PhD students in pedagogy and didactics, as well as senior students in Primary Education Science who are in their last years of study. It is also opened for primary school teachers.
Programme Overview
Selected participants will take part in five days of activities and training, from the afternoon of 19 May to midday on 23v May 2025.The Summer School aims to promote Service Learning (SL) as an innovative pedagogical approach in teacher training, encouraging values like responsibility, collaboration, and civic awareness. It highlights how SL boosts student motivation and engagement while being applicable across various fields and educational levels, from school to university. Experts will share their experiences and feedback on implementing SL initiatives.
