Students with Fewer Opportunities

Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu supports equal access to international mobility opportunities. In accordance with the Erasmus+ Programme Guide and the Romanian National Call for Proposals, students who are classified as students with fewer opportunities may benefit from additional financial support for their Erasmus+ mobility.

Students who fall into one or more of the categories listed below may be eligible for additional Erasmus+ support.

Additional Financial Support

Students with fewer opportunities who participate in a long-term mobility (study or traineeship) may receive additional financial support as follows:

  • €250 per month for the entire duration of the mobility

Students with fewer opportunities who participate in a short-term physical mobility may receive additional financial support as follows:

  • €100 for mobilities lasting 5–14 days
  • €150 for mobilities lasting 15–30 days

Participants with special needs whose physical, mental, or health condition requires additional support (such as a preparatory visit or an accompanying person during the mobility) may receive additional funding based on real costs, depending on their specific needs

Eligibility Criteria

According to the Erasmus+ National Call for Proposals, students with fewer opportunities include those who fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Students who receive a social scholarship or who meet the eligibility criteria to receive a social scholarship granted by their higher education institution, in accordance with the Romanian Ministry of Education Order no. 6463/2023.
  • Students who are orphans of one or both parents.
  • Students coming from a single-parent family (due to death, disappearance, incarceration of the other parent, or non-recognition on the birth certificate).
  • Students who are considered “first-generation students” (meaning they do not already hold a bachelor’s degree and their parents have not obtained a university degree; however, they may have siblings who are currently studying at university or have already graduated).
  • Students with disabilities (including physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments) or health problems (including serious or chronic illnesses or any physical or mental health condition that may limit participation in the programme).
  • Students whose family’s average net monthly income per family member during the 12 months prior to submitting the supporting documents does not exceed the national minimum net salary.
  • Students who are a single parent, raising a minor child alone (due to death, disappearance, incarceration of the other parent, or non-recognition on the birth certificate).
  • Students belonging to the Roma ethnic minority.
  • Students with migrant or refugee status.

These categories also apply to participants of nationalities other than Romanian who are selected to participate in an Erasmus+ mobility

Necessary Documents

To confirm eligibility for one of the above categories when preparing the Erasmus+ financial agreement, students must submit supporting documents such as:

    • Documents confirming eligibility for social scholarships as stipulated in Article 10 (9), letters a–c of the Romanian Ministry of Education Order no. 6463/2023 (certificate issued by the faculty confirming eligibility for a social scholarship at the time of application and copies of documents supporting the eligibility criteria).
    • Medical records or valid medical documents (copy).
    • Death certificate(s) of parent(s) (copy).
    • Documents confirming single-parent family status (such as civil status documents, proof of incarceration, court decisions regarding detention, social investigation reports in cases of missing parents, etc.) – copy.
    • Documents confirming the family income level (such as income certificates for each family member, social investigation report, etc.).
    • Student’s sworn statement confirming that they belong to the category of students with low parental educational background, accompanied by copies of the parents’ education certificates.
    • Documents confirming the student’s status as a single parent (e.g., birth certificate with unidentified father, death certificate of the other parent, civil status documents).
    • Proof of incarceration, court decisions regarding detention, or social investigation reports in cases of missing parents.
    • Certificate confirming ethnic affiliation (where applicable).
    • Residence permit or another official document issued by the competent authorities confirming migrant or refugee status.
