Challenges in Data Science: Big Data, Biostatistics, Artificial Intelligence and Communications

A data driven revolution is already taking place nowadays. This summer school aims to help participants to understand its scope. Through the summer courses scheduled, we will provide students with advanced knowledge on the amazing increase in data management and applications, which are affecting the Economy, Society, Culture and Education.

Supported by a mix of lectures, working on a group assignment and an experimental lab session, students will team up to put into practice the lessons learned by presenting a Start-up project. The summer school will combine in-person lectures and on-line lectures. Students will apply their learning by developing a Start-up project and, upon completion (continuous evauation and final Start-up project), earn 3 ECTS credits.

The course covers topics such as big data, data analytics, open-source tools, cloud computing, privacy, cybersecurity, text mining, biostatistics, and applications in tourism and social sciences. The summer school is taught in English. Funds are available for students through the EU BIP programme. Students should contact their universities for applying to these funds.
